What is BHV?
BHV (bedrijfshulpverlening) is your company's own emergency response team: the colleagues who step in during a medical emergency, a fire or an evacuation until the fire brigade or ambulance arrives. Article 15 of the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) requires every employer in the Netherlands to have one. That includes international companies whose staff work in English.
Theory, practice and scenarios, all in English. Mixed team? No problem, we switch to Dutch wherever it helps. Nobody spends the day following only half of it.
We come to you, anywhere in the Netherlands. Your team trains in its own building, with its own AED and its own escape routes. That's where it will happen, so that's where you practise.
Firefighters and medics, not presenters reading slides. We know what stress, panic and time pressure feel like, and that is exactly what we train for.
New to BHV or renewing your certificate? Both groups train together. Every participant receives a BHV certificate in line with NIBHV guidelines.
Programme
One day, six modules, practical from start to finish. Short on theory, long on practice.
Recognising cardiac arrest, chest compressions, rescue breaths and using an AED without hesitation. Practised on manikins and AED trainers until it's second nature.
Bleeding, unconsciousness, choking, burns and keeping the airway open. First aid geared to the risks in your workplace.
Choosing and using the right extinguisher. And the most important call of all: when to fight a fire, and when to get out.
Getting colleagues and visitors out quickly and safely. We walk your own escape routes and assembly point.
Calling 112, alerting colleagues and assigning roles. Staying clear under pressure is a skill, and skills can be trained.
We finish with realistic scenarios based on your building and your risks. Your people leave knowing they can handle it.

Your instructor
Ramon Jansen has been teaching for 18 years. He has been a firefighter with Amsterdam Amstelland Fire Service for 24 years, and before that he spent six years as a medic with the Dutch 11 Airmobile Brigade.
He regularly trains international teams in English, including Uniqlo's store managers. No dry theory, no box ticking: just scenarios people recognise, and room for the questions they're afraid to ask.

Participants can cover the theory beforehand with our English BHV e‑learning. It takes about 90 minutes, on phone or laptop, at their own pace, so the training day is all about practice. It also works as a refresher, or for new starters who join between training days. € 25 per person, excl. VAT.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Article 15 of the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) requires every employer to arrange emergency response. How many BHV officers you need depends on your risk assessment (RI&E), your building and your opening hours, and at least one trained person must always be on site. Employers with 25 staff or fewer may take on the role themselves.
Yes: theory, exercises and scenarios. In mixed teams we switch between English and Dutch, so everyone can follow.
We charge an all‑inclusive day rate from € 1,100 per group, covering the instructor, all materials and the certificates. No hidden costs, and no extra charge for teaching in English.
Always at your premises, anywhere in the Netherlands. Your team trains in the building it knows, with the extinguishers and AED that are actually on the wall.
Between 6 and 12 participants per group.
Generally one year. An annual refresher keeps skills sharp and renews the certificate.
